Get into the swing of things… underground

The creative people behind the Rooftop Film Club have launched a new pop-up at The Vaults in Waterloo. Combining crazy golf and cinema, this is guaranteed to be a great night out this winter. The pop-up officially opened on the 11th of November and I was lucky enough to go and have a round… or two.

Birdies Crazy Golf Club have created a unique nine hole course specifically designed for the location. It proved a bit trickier than other ‘crazy’ golf courses I’ve been to and included loops, drops and a hole where it was possible to win or lose extra points. In between holes, don’t forget to sample the cocktails from the Caddy Shack – drinks include the Golfbuster and the Tiger’s Wood. You can even pay £1 extra and get a Polaroid picture attached to your drink as a memento!

All this hard work made this little birdie feel a bit peckish so we decided to sample the food offerings. The two options came courtesy of Hawksmoor Knightsbridge’s Head Chef Richard Sandiford and Hixter. Whilst I thought the Hixter roast chicken sandwich was delicious, the highlight for me was definitely the Rockadollar Dog – mouth-wateringly good!

Once we were all golfed out, it was time to move into the next bar area – a quirky underground cocktail lounge that had live music on whilst we were there. There was a huge range of cocktails here and I indulged in a Flaming Hurricane – with real flames!

Finally, it was time for the Underground Film Club’s screening of Tangerine to begin. We picked up a bag of popcorn and some sweets (films just aren’t the same without these) and made our way to our seats. As far as cinema venues go, this was a great one with comfy velvet seats and wireless headphones.

Tee Times for Birdies Crazy Golf Club are selling out fast so you may want to book yours online now; if you just want to see what it’s all about then you can also buy a Tunnel Pass. And if golf really isn’t your thing, then why not have a look at what is screening at the cinema?
